General Info

We will be conducting a Tournament for 10-12 year olds starting 22 - 30 August 2020.
Below is the COVID Guidance for this Tournament.

2020 COVID-19 GUIDELINES

DISTRICT 9 10-12 TOURNAMENT

 

Section 1: General Safety

• Participation in the DISTRICT 9 TOURNAMENT is voluntary and at the discretion of the player’s parents/guardians.

• Anyone with any of the following conditions should not be at the tournament site until evaluated by a medical provider and given clearance to do so:

o   Cough

o   Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

o   Fever (CDC considers a person to have a fever when he or she has a measured temperature of 100.4 degrees or greater, feels warm to the touch, or gives a history of feeling feverish)

o   Chills

o   Muscle pain

o   Sore throat

o   New loss of taste or smell

 

• Players, managers/coaches, parents/guardians, Tournament Staff and Umpires shall take body temperature to ensure that no fever is present prior to participating or attending each Little League activity.  Anyone with a temperature over 100.4, or experiencing a cough, worsening respiratory symptoms, or any known exposure to a person with COVID-19 should not attend any Little League activity until cleared by a medical professional.

 

Section 2: Game Operations

• Teams will not be allowed on the field until 1 hour prior to scheduled game time. Teams may throw in the outfield at this time, maintaining social distancing between players.  Batting cages will not be available at Trailside Park during the tournament.

• Players should place their individual equipment out in front of the dugout in a well-spaced out manner for inspection upon entering the field.  ALL equipment that will be used in the game shall be displayed.  Illegal equipment or equipment that will not be used shall be returned to their vehicle.

• 30 minutes prior to game time the Home team will have exclusive use of the entire field for 10 minutes.  At 20 minutes prior to game time the Visiting team will have exclusive use of the entire field.  The other team shall completely clear the field and maintain social distancing in dugout/bleachers.

• Managers/coaches and players should be assigned spots in the dugout or on the bleachers so that they are at least six feet apart and must be placed behind a fence.

• Pre-game meetings between managers and umpires should be conducted with a social distancing of six feet between all participants.

• Players may wear a cloth face covering on the field during game play, if physically able to do so, based on any directive of a medical provider or individual determination of the player/parent/guardian.

• Players shall not wear protective medical gloves on the field during game play.

• Players should sanitize their hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol

o after each defensive half inning played
o before and after retrieving a bat following a base hit.


• Each team should have six unwrapped game balls for each game.

• Teams will line up outside the dugout and tipping caps to the opposing team as a sign of good sportsmanship after every game.

Umpires:

• Umpires should wear a face covering when walking through dugouts, checking players equipment, and conducting any meetings with managers and league officials.

 Umpires are not required to wear face coverings on the field during games but may do so at their own discretion.

 Umpires will visually inspect equipment before games but should refrain from touching equipment.

 Umpires will call balls and strikes from behind the plate.

 

Section 3: Food and Drinks

• Athletes, managers/coaches, and umpires should bring their own personal drinks to all team activities.  Drinks should have a lid or seal (i.e. sipping nozzles) and be labeled with that person’s name.

AT NO TIME SHALL FOOD, SNACKS, SEEDS, OR GUM BE ALLOWED IN THE DUGOUT OR ON THE FIELD. If needed for medical reasons, food for players shall be individualized pre-packaged food and shall remain with the player’s parent/guardian.

 

Section 4: Spectators

• All spectators should follow Virginia Department of Health guidelines for gatherings.

• Parents/guardians/fans will not be permitted in the area behind the backstops and between the dugouts.  All parents/guardians/fans should stand or sit in lawn chairs maintaining social distancing of ten (10) feet on the outfield side of the dugouts and along the outfield fence (except for 10 feet on either side of centerfield (batter’s eye)).

o Siblings should remain with their parent/guardian at all times.
