LLWS Umpire

I’m pleased to be able to announce that Mark Smith has been selected to umpire the 2018 Little League World Series in Williamsport, the highest honor a volunteer Little League umpire can achieve.

Each year, sixteen umpires from around the world are invited to umpire in Williamsport, after having been recommended by the Regional Director and previously had their performance graded and recommended at a Regional tournament.  You may recall that when Mark participated in the Regional Little League tournament in Warner Robins, his performance resulted in being given the honor of being named plate umpire for the championship game, even though Virginia was in the final - a very rare occurrence.  He has been waiting for five years for the letter appointing him to the World Series, and he is one of two umpires who will represent the Southeast Region.

I know that all of you join me in congratulating Mark on this singular honor.  For those of you who have never attended a World Series in Williamsport, this is the year to make plans to go.  This year’s tournament runs from August 16-26.  It is one of life’s unique experiences, and will be especially so this year.

Best, John Donaldson
